    Jon Pall Sigmarsson improved his deadlift from 370 kg on a standard bar to 470 kg in the gym. Kazmaier who did 402 KG in competition thought this event is his. Granted, not a standard bar but Sigmarrson had more in the reserves that he did one extra easily. Unfortunately, the deadlift was his own downfall as he passed out then passed away after a heavy deadlift session.

    Jon Pall at 130 kg bodyweight just managed to get his bodyweight + 400 kg more off the ground, while you today got 180 kg powerlifters & strongmen who can't even get 500 kg to move off the floor.

  • @Jabmil23

    Yeah Kaz was right, you can see Jon clearly get his knees under the bar, wasn't a real deadlift and made it way easier, whereas Kaz doesn't do that at all. This event was stupid, and they should've done a normal deadlift with a regular bar, Jon was cheating this event, as I doubt that would fly today.

    In static strength both Geoff Capes and Tom Magee were on next level than Jon Pall, Kazmaier was way above than Magee and Capes just that he was not allowed to compete in WSM after his hatrick. This is not a proper deadlift, and Jon Pall just knows the trick i.e sliding his legs which makes it even shorter and simpler. Imho it shouldn't have been allowed. But Jon Pall was given a green card for everthing back then, OD Wilson's victory was snatched and gifted to him for the shameless racist apartheid rants.

    In the clip from 1987, that is what they called a "Health Lift" in the 19th century, a short-range, bent-knee deadlift, which was coinsidered a good way to build overall strength and conditioning to improve one's "figure, strength, and health".

  • @Mr537James
    @Mr537James 11 років тому

    Around 1983 Jon Pall deadlifted the European record of 370. This was when he was still young to the sport. If Jon Pall were to do a normal barbell deadlift in 1987 ( his prime ) I'm 100% sure he would've been a 400-410 kg man. If not breaking Kaz's world record. You can see this was his strongest year, JPS physique looks so much more "static strength" in this competition.

    • @leescammell9988
      @leescammell9988 7 років тому

      Mr537James doubt it. this isn't a deadlift here, he's sliding his thighs down the wood so the lift starts close to his hips while already leaning back. more like a quarter-squat than a deadlift. at '88 WSM Kaz easily beat Jon-Pall in a more proper deadlift from lower down beneath the knees and JPS felt the need to try and pull it sumo-style to get an edge

    Not necessarily. Ive max lifted 635 lbs deadlift (and I Hitched it), but from a rack I can pull over 905lbs to a lockout (and that is only because more weights would fall off the olympic bar) or else I wouldve lifted more.
